Amar Singh Biography

Thakur Amar Singh was born on January 27, 1956 in a Rajput family of Azamgarh district in U.P. He is a politician and industrliast. Amar Singh was once of the frontline leaders of Samajwadi Party considered a close ally of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav who was known for his political connections and his relation with super star of Indian film world Amitabh Bacchan and his family. Amar Singh had been the member of Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal in the Indian politics. Amar Singh is married to Pankaja Kumari Singh and has two children.

Amar Singh was the general secretary of the Samajwadi Party and member of the Rajya Sabha who resigned from all the posts of Samajwadi Party. Later he was charged for cases of corruption which are still pending making him widely unpopular. His differences with Samajwadi chief caused him and his close friend Jaya Prada expulsion from the Samajwadi party in February 2010. Incidentally, Amar Singh was sent to jail and took the retirement from all political activities. 

Amar Singh came into limelight when the Communist Party withdrew their support over the proposed Nuclear Accord with the United States and the UPA government was reduced to a minority. The Samajwadi Party supported the UPA government with the support of its 39 members with the help of Amar Singh who acted as main negotiator in the process.

Amar Singh has been center of many controversies and controversial statements during his political career including when he accused the then Chief Minister Mayawati of of UP for kidnapping six MPs of his party from Uttar Pradesh. Amar Singh was accused of starting a controversy by asking for a probe in the Batla house encounter case which he thought was fake. He has also involved in a Rs. Ten Lakh cheque to the family of Mohan Chand Sharma, a police officer who died in the encounter which was not cleared from the bank.

Amar Singh is also involved in bribe case to three parliament members of the BJP. Amar Sigh has also written a Book "Religion in Politics: Gandhian Perspective in the Present Context". He has his official website and blog after being encouraged by Amitabh Bachchan, in 2010. Now, Amar Singh is playing a role of a politician in a Hindi feature Film JD which is based on the life of a journalist to be released in 2016.
