Alok Verma Biography 
Alok Verma is an IPS Officer who currently serves as the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation in India. He is the 27th Director of the CBI, the highest executive position in the premier federal agency. He has formerly served as Commissioner of Police, Delhi, and many other administrative positions. In 2018 October he came to limelight following his open conflicts with his colleague and IPS officer, Rakesh Asthana who currently serves as the Special Director at the Central Bureau of Investigation. CBI charged Rakesh Asthana with extortion and forgery in addition to the bribery and corruption charges. In fact both the officers have accused each other for taking bribes, leading to a controversy. Following the war of words between the two, the government forcibly sent both these officers on leave and appointed M. Nageshwar Rao as interim chief of the probe agency.
Alok Kumar Verma was born on 14 July 1957 in Delhi. He was educated in Delhi, completing his schooling and graduation from St. Xavier's School and St. Stephen's College respectively. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1979 at the age of 22 in AGMU Cadre. He was the youngest officer in his batch. Verma headed different organizations before assuming the office of Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
He served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Delhi in 1979 followed by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi in 1985 and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi in 1992. He became the Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi in 2004 and Commissioner of Police, Delhi in 2016. In between, he has served as an IPS officer in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, Pondicherry etc. He was appointed as the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation in 2017. He is a recipient of President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2003 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1997.
