Alia Bhatt Biography

Alia Bhatt is one of the top and talented young heroines of Bollywood. She is also a successful playback singer of the industry. She gained super stardom playing the lead roles in performance oriented films – Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab released in 2016. She won Filmfare Critics award for best actress for Imtiaz Ali’s Highway in 2015, and won her first Filmfare award for best actress in 2017 for Udta Punjab. Dear Zindagi, 2 States, Student of the year, Kapoor & Sons, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania are her biggest career hits. In fact most of her films have been accepted by film audience, and she is definitely one of the rare artists of film industry who achieved high peaks in success before reached 25 years old.

Alia was born into a family with strong film background. She is the youngest daughter of talented film maker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. Her paternal grandfather Nanabhai Bhatt was a well-known filmmaker associated with Gujarati cinema. She holds British Indian nationality. Actress Pooja Bhatt is her half-sister and she has more than a dozen of cousins in the Bollywood film industry. Mohit Suri, Emraan Hashmi, Milan Luthria and Dharmesh Darshan are among her cousins’ list who work in the industry. She is one of the youngest members of Bhatt family who works in the film industry at present.

Alia was first seen as a child artist in 1999 film, Sangursh, where she essayed Preity Zinta’s childhood role. As an adult, she made her film debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year in 2012. This super hit movie was a perfect Launchpad for Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Sana Saeed, who also debut with the same film.

Highway was only her second film in a lead role. It was a complete switch over from a glamour role to performance oriented film for young Alia. But her breakthrough performance in the film surprised everyone and she rose to prominence with her second release. There was no turning back. She has shown her versatility in different shades – from a naughty girl to career-oriented women through the different roles she essayed on screen in the past 5 years.

She has been nominated for Filmfare best actress award four times, including two nominations last year. Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab both released in 2016 proved to be the milestone movies of her career. Shah Rukh Khan played a cameo lead role in women centric Dear Zindagilast year and the movie was a runaway success at box office during demonetization. She received praises and nominations from all sides for one of the most powerful roles of her career up-to-date.

Her single release this year Badrinath Ki Dulhania also entered 100-crore club. She has surprised everyone with her singing talents as well. Her songs for the movies – Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania went viral over net and viewed by millions of her fans. She has briefly dated her co-star Siddharth Malhotra, with whom she has worked in two hit movies.
