Aki Narula Biography

Aki Narula is an Indian fashion designer and costume designer. He has designed costumes for many Bollywood movies like Bunty Aur Babli (2006), Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) and Dostana (2008), of Yash Raj Films banner. He is also known as a wardrobe stylist of movie world. Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Bluffmaster! (2005), Kambakkht Ishq (2009), Tashan (2007), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), Don (2006), Garam Masala (2005), Paa (2009), Chillar Party (2011), Housefull 2 (2012), Lamhaa (2010), Tees Maar Khan (2010) and Rockstar (2011) are other noted movies. His most recent work is Highway of Imtiaz Ali released in 2014. He is known for designing Kareena Kapoor’s outfits for Tashan and Kambaqt Ishq, Amitabh Bachchan in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in Dostana. He launched his brand label "AKI" in 1996.

He was born in Kolkata in the year 1968. He did his schooling from La Martiniere Calcutta, and completed matriculation in 1987. He graduated in commerce from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. While at college, he started designing clothes for rock concerts and college plays. Yet he didn’t have any formal knowledge in designing clothes. But he started off by designing outfits for friends. Then he worked as a management trainee for a short period with the Lintas Group. Then he joined Arizona State University, for a communications course.

He returned in 1992 and opened a cost accounting programme in Kolkata. He took part in the 'Fashion Designer award' of Damania Airlines in the year 1994 and was chosen as winner from Kolkata. Thus he decided to join fashion industry and started working from Kolkata. After the launch of his own brand, Aki in 1996 his first fashion show was with "Melange", a designer boutique at Opera House, Mumbai. Thus began the successful beginning of Aki.
