Ajit Singh Biography

Ajit Singh was born on 12 February 1939 at village Bhadola near Kharkhoda in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh in the family of Choudhry Charan Singh the former Prime Minister of India and Gayatri Devi. He is a Jat leader and President of Lok Dal (A). Ajit Singh is married to Smt. Radhika Singh and has one son and two daughters. His son Jayant Choudhary, who won in 15th Lok Sabha from Mathura Uttar Pradesh lost to Hema Malini in last elections in 2014.

Ajit Singh was sent to Col. Brown Cambridge School, Dehradun for his initial schooling.  He completed his B.Sc., from Lucknow University. He holds the B.Tech degree from IIT Kharagpur and a M.S. from Illinois Institute of Technology. He started his career as a computer scientist by profession.

Ch. Ajit Singh has a long political history as he was elected President of Janata Party in 1988 and a general secratory of Janata Dal. He was elected in 9th Lok Sabha and was Union Cabinet Minister, Industry from Dec. 1989 to Nov. 1990. He was Re-elected to 10th Lok Sabha. He was given the charge of Union Cabinet Minister, Food in Feb. 1995 to May 1996. He was again elected to 11th Lok Sabha for the 3rd time in 1996 bur resigned from Congress Party and Lok Sabha the same year.

In the year 1997 he won the Lok Sabha election in a bye-election. He was re-elected to 13th Lok Sabha for the fourth time in 1999. He was union Agricultural minister from 22 Jul. 2001- 24 May 2003. Ajit Singh was Re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha for 5th time in 2004. He was Re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha (6th term) in 2009. He was a cabinet Minister in Manmohan Singh's cabinet for Civil Aviation.
