Ajit Agarkar Biography

Ajit Agarkar is a former cricketer of Indian team who played in more than 200 International matches. He is known as all-rounder of the team, though known most for his fast wicket taking talent. He bowls with Right-arm fast-medium style and is a right-handed batsman too. He debut international cricket in 1998 and very soon gained attention for his wicket talking spells. But his RPO rate is always high, that remains a drawback for his career in ODI format. Though he is comparatively short, he is known for his pace of bowling. Occasionally he has also turned out to be a ‘miracle’ batsman winning a few matches for India.

Ajit Bhalchandra Agarkar was born on 4 December 1977 in Mumbai, Maharastra. He was raised by his grandparents at Shivaji Park and was given cricket practice at a younger age. He married Fatima Ghadially, a Muslim Shia girl from Mumbai and now the couple with a son lives at Worli. Agarkar made his ODI debut against Australia at Kochi, on 1 April 1998. It was the first international ODI played in a Kerala ground and remembered for 5 Wickets taken by Sachin (his bowling best) to win the match! Ajit won his first ‘Man of the match’ award against Sri Lanka taking three crucial wickets folding Sri Lanka for just 98 in Coca cola champions’ trophy match.

Very soon he became a valuable player of the side. He was a wicket taking bowler fot India though he used to give too many runs for the opponent team. In 1999, he created a new record of fastest 50 wickets by a bowler in ODI. At Adelaide Oval in 2003, Agarkar took 6/41 which remains one of his best performances in the career. Yet he was most noticed in ODI matches. He has taken 288 wickets from ODIs while 58 wickets from 26 test matches.
