Ajayan Bala Biography

Ajayan Bala is a film director and screenwriter associated with Tamil cinema. He is also an award winning author whose book on cinema, Ulaka cinima varalaru : maunayukam 1894-1929 was chosen as the best book in the fine arts section by Tamil Nadu Government in 2007. Apart from works on cinema, he has also authored Novels, Short story collections, Biographies etc apart from translating a couple of film scripts. His works belong to both fiction and non-fiction genres. In 2018 he made his directorial debut through the anthology film, 6 Athiyayam where he directed the third chapter – Misai.

 

Ajayan Bala was born in Thirukalukundram, Tamil Nadu. He has published many works before he joined film industry as a screenwriter. He has written one novel – Pakalmeenkal, which has been serialized in the famous Kalki magazine. As a screenwriter Chennaiyil Oru Naal (2013) is his first work. It’s an adapted script of Malayalam film titled Traffic. Manithan (2016 film) is his adapted script of Hindi hit film, Jolly LLB. Vana Yuddham, Diya, Lakshmi and Nethraa are other works as a screenwriter.

 

He has authored a dozen of biographies which include famous personalities like Karl Marx, Ambedkar, Charlie Chaplin, Mother Teresa, Nethaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Periyar, Martin Luther King etc. Mudivatra Kalaignan: Marlon Brando, Sumar Ezhuthalanum Super Star-um, Semmozhi Sirpigal etc are some of his non-fiction works. He translated the screenplays of Bicycle Thieves and The Battle of Algiers. Mayilvakanan and other stories, Moondravathu Arai Nanbanin Kathal Kathai, Ajayan Bala Sirukathaikal and Muthukkal Pathu are his published short story collections. He has also worked as an assistant director in Tamil film industry.
