Ajay Wadhavkar Biography

Ajay Wadhavkar was a popular character artist associated with Hindi and Marathi entertainment industry. He worked in both films and television shows. As a television actor, he is best remembered for playing bumbling cop Ganpat Hawaldar from iconic Doordarshan TV serial 'Nukkad' in 1986 directed by Kundan Shah and Saeed Akhtar Mirza. He was also seen in the nostalgic Doordarshan serials – Circus and Byomkesh Bakshi, essaying a guest role and the character role of Dr. Nagendra Pal respectively. In the present times, he was best noticed for playing Sushant Singh Rajputs' father in Pavitra Rishta. He passed away in 2015.

The stocky Wadhavkar shot to fame with yesteryear’s milestone TV serial ‘Nukkad’ where he played the bumbling cop Ganpat Hawaldar. Though he has played numerous roles on small and big screen belonging to Hindi and Marathi languages, he is still best known for his role as Ganpat Havaldar. He was last seen on TV in 'Pavitra Rishta' as Sushant Singh Rajput's father. In his early films, his name has been credited as Ajay Vadhaokar.

Some of his noted film roles include - Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Bhrashtachar, Shahenshah, Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Jeeva Sakha, Yes Boss, Prithvi, Ek Full Chaar Half, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Le Chal Apne Sang, Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century etc. He was last seen on Bollywood big screen for the movie, Fun2shh in 2003. During his last years he was not active in professional field, and was battling throat cancer. He failed to manage his career and finances, and was living in a rented house in Kandivli for a long time. He was in need of financial help, and Johny Lever was one among the film celebrities who helped him during his bad phase providing him with financial help. He passed away in Pune in February 2015.
