Ajay Raj Biography

Ajay Raj is a film actor associated with Tamil cinema. He is a successful choreographer too. He has played both supporting roles and negative shaded roles on big screen. He worked as a choreographer in the industry, before he forayed into acting through Agathiyan's Selvam (2005). His role in Chennai 600028 (2007) got appreciated and since then he is regular in Tamil films playing supporting roles. He is almost a permanent fixture in director Venkat Prabhu’s movies, who offered Ajay the supporting role of Ezhumalai in his debut flick, Chennai 600028. He has also given a few cameo and special appearances in Venkat’s films, and also does choreography works for the director.

Ajay Raj hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He joined film industry in the late 1990s as a dance choreographer. Kadhal Mannan in 1998 was his debut film as a choreographer. Since then he has worked in more than 50 films as a choreographer in a career spanning to two decades. He appeared in a dance sequence for 2002 film, Jjunction. Yet his credited film debut is Agathiyan's Selvam (2005) playing a brief role of Subramaniam.

As an actor, he is also recognized for the supporting role of henchman he played in Thiagarajan Kumararaja's neo-noir gangster film Aaranya Kaandam (2010). In 2016, actor Nithin Sathya announced his debut as a film producer, with Ajay Raj playing the lead role for his debut project. As a choreographer, Ajay is known for the movies – Jarugandi, Chennai 600028 II: Second Innings, Massu Engira Masilamani, Om Shanthi Om, Mankatha, Goa, Biriyani, Saroja, Thozha, Sukran, Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven, Parthen Rasithen, Taj Mahal, Amarkalam, Selvam etc.
