Achyut Potdar Biography

Achyut Potdar is a veteran actor of Bollywood and stage actor known for portraying character roles. He is most prolific in handling father/grandfather roles. He is associated with Bollywood since early 1980s and has been a part of several landmark movies, either his role is small or big. Apart from 125 movies onscreen, he has also appeared in 95 serials, 26 plays and 45 ads. Most recently on Independence Day 2015, he was facilitated with Lifetime Achievement Award by the cultural group Sanad in Indore for his outstanding contributions to Indian entertainment industry. Dabangg 2, Ferrari Ki Sawaari and 3 Idiots are his memorable film roles in the recent times. He regularly appeared in Vidhu Vinod Chopra films.

 

He was born in Jabalpur on 22 August 1934. Potdar spent his childhood at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He completed M Com in 1961 with University gold medal. After a brief stint as a college lecturer, he joined Indian army. He retired as a captain in 1967 and worked with Indian Oil Corporation as an executive for 25 years. While working with Indian Oil, he used to participate in cultural activities like plays. Achyut Potdar entered Bollywood as a character artist during his middle ages.

 

He debut Bollywood at the age of 44. Since debut he got busy with movies. Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Daag, Parineetha, Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, Dahek – A Burning Passion, Prahaar: The Final Attack, Narasimha, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Damini – Lightning, Bhoothnath, Geetanjali, Yeh Dillagi, Dilwale, Mrityudand, Agnisakshi, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Shatranj, Hum Ho Gaye Aapke, Ishq, Udaan, Auzaar, Vaastav, Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Keemat, Ardh Satya, Vijetha – he played numerous memorable roles onscreen.
