Abhishek Shankar Biography

Abhishek Shankar is a noted character artist associated with Tamil cinema and television. He marked his acting debut in 1995 film, Mogamul in a lead role. The film opened to critical acclaim. In 2010, he scripted and directed one Tamil movie, Kathai starring newcomers - Shaan Kumar, Nivedhitha, Abhinay and also voice actor, Deepa Venkat. The movie received average reviews, and was a box office flop. As a film actor, he has played noted supporting roles in Tamil movies – Sketch, Pencil, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Azhagaana Ponnuthan, Thalaivan, Pathinaaru, Asokavanam, Thupparivaalan etc. He has appeared in over a dozen of films in a supporting role. Abhishek Shankar has also acted in TV soaps.

 

Abhishek Shankar was born in Chembur, Mumbai. He marked his acting debut in south Indian films in the year 1995. He played male lead in the critically acclaimed, Mogamul directed by Gnana Rajasekaran. The movie also starred Archana Joglekar, Nedumudi Venu and Vivek in pivot roles, and it was released to positive reviews from critics. It was the debut movie of the director too. After making an impressive debut, he failed to get more offers from films. So when he was offered a role by Ekta Kapoor in her new serial, Kudumbam, he readily accepted it.

 

Later he became fully active in television, and worked in more than 40 TV soaps. He rose to prominence portraying the character Bhaskaran in the serial, Kolangal. After this role, he got offers from films too, and he accepted them. In 2010, he marked his directorial debut with Kathai with a set of newcomers. Though the movie was panned by critics, he was appreciated for choosing such a heavy subject for his maiden project. Though he announced his second film with Shaan, the project didn’t materialize.
