Abhinav Kashyap Biography

Abhinav Singh Kashyap, shortly called Abhinav Kashyap is a Bollywood director and screenwriter best known for all-time blockbuster Debaang (2010), which proved to be the breakthrough movie of Salman Khan’s career. The film marked the successful debut of actress Sonakshi Sinha as well. The movie received numerous awards and nominations including National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The movie was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010 and the fourth highest–grossing Bollywood film of all time. However he couldn’t repeat his success with the next movie, Besharam in 2013 which proved to be a Bollywood disaster.

He was born on 6 September 1974 in Obra, Uttar Pradesh. His father worked for the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. He has two brothers. His elder brother Anurag Kashyap is a very successful director of Bollywood. Actress Kalki Koechlin is his sister-in-law. Successful Bollywood editor Aarti Bajaj as formerly married to his elder brother – Anurag. Abhinav schooled at The Scindia School, Gwalior and completed graduation in English from Hansraj College, University of Delhi in 1995. He married writer Chatura Rao and currently resides in Mumbai.

He was associated with television industry before entering Bollywood. In Bollywood he started off as a writer in the year 2000 with the movie Jung. Later he wrote the dialogues of Manorama Six Feet Under (2007) and 13B (2009). He made his debut as a director through Debaang, which proved to be the most successful movie of a debutant director up-to-date. The movie also broke the opening record of 3 Idiots, though it couldn’t break the record of best grosser all time. In 2013, he made his second movie Besharam, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda in lead roles.
