Abhijeet Bhattacharya Biography

Abhijeet Bhattacharya is a popular playback singer of Bollywood who has contributed a lot to the melodies of 90’s. He is counted among the most successful singers and has sung for almost all superstars of Bollywood. He is a successful singer of private albums too.   

 

He belongs to the musical group of Bengal who has contributed a lot to Bollywood music. Other persons in the list include S.D.Burman, R.D.Burman, Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Shreya Ghoshal. He came to Mumbai in 1981, to persuade his studies. But his fascination to music bound him close to Bollywood and its music and he became part of many stage shows. He got his first call from R.D.Burman for Dev Anand’s son’s debut movie. But it was during 1990’s Abhijeet gained momentum. His song ‘Chandni raat hai’, for Anand-Milind’s Baagi became a huge success. The song was pictured on Salman Khan. Very soon he became the leading voice of many big heroes of Bollywood including Shah Rukh Khan, Mithun Chakravarthy, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. He has sung numerous songs for Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Hritik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan.

 

His singing style was very close to Kishore Kumar and gradually, he developed a distinct style of his own. Though having a lovely voice, he got a few chances comparing Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan and he has struggled a lot too. Once he has told in an interview that he will never love to reborn as an Indian singer, the country where less preference is given for real talents. Throughout his singing career, he has won Filmfare only once for the song ‘Mein koi aisa geet’ of Yes Boss in 1997. His voice was wisely used by music directors for Shah Rukh Khan many times by the music due – Jatin Lalit. It can be said that, this music duo has given maximum chances to Abhijeet. A few hits include – Hum to deewane and Aashiq hoon of Baadshah, Mein koi, Chand taare and Suniye to of Yes Boss, Badi mushkil hai of Anjaam, Roshni si and Raat ka nasha of Ashoka, Tumhe jo and title sad version of Mein hoon naa, Zara sa of DDLJ, Kaise of Ohm Shanthi Ohm and Toba tumhari and Suno naa of Chalte Chalte.

 

Other major hits of Abhijeet Bhattacharya include Jhanjariya of Krishna, Ladki shahar ki ladki of Rakshak, Tum dil ki of Dhadkan (for Suniel Shetty), Tan tana of Judwa (for Salman Khan), Ole ole of Yeh Dillagi (For Saif Ali Khan), Waada raha sanam of Khiladi and Mein khiladi tu anari title track, Jab tak rahega (Mr and Mrs. Khiladi), Mein hoo jo pagal munna (for Akshay Kumar), E naasni suno of Dil hi dil mein, Mere khayalom ki of Josh and Yeh teri aakhen of Fareb.
