Abhaya Hiranmayi Biography

Abhaya Hiranmayi is a south Indian playback singer associated with Malayalam and Telugu film industry. She has also provided back vocals for many film songs composed by Gopi Sundar. She started her career in 2014 providing backing vocals for Malayalam film songs, and till now she has worked with Gopi Sundar only. She made her debut through the song Naku Penta, Naku Taka from the eponymous film, where she provided back vocals in a Swahili dialect. She is a recipient of Asiavision Awards in music.

 

Abhaya Hiranmayi was born on 24 May 1989 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Her father G. Mohan formerly worked as a programme producer for Doordarshan Kendra. Her family is inclined towards arts and music and her mother is a classical singer. Her mother Lathika, who is a postgraduate in music taught her basics of Carnatic music. She was later helped by her paternal uncle with music lessons. Her uncle is a professor at Swati Thirunal College of Music, and Abhaya passively learnt music from him through his music lessons.

 

Abhaya grew up in Thiruvananthapuram, and did her schooling from Carmel School. Though she enrolled for her engineering course, she dropped out of the college to pursue a career in music. Naku Penta, Naku Taka in 2014 was her debut film, where she provided back vocals for the title song, composed by Gopi Sundar. Since then she rendered her voice for some of the movies of the same composer such as Vishwasam Athalle Ellam, James and Alice, Sathya, 2 Countries, Goodalochana, Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju etc. In 2015 she crooned the song Choti Zindagi for the Telugu film Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju which marked her Telugu debut.
