Abhay Kumar Biography

Abhay Kumar is a well-known poet and diplomat from Nalanda, Bihar. As a writer he is best known for the works - The Seduction of Delhi, The Eight-Eyed Lord of Kathmandu, CAPITALS and 100 Great Indian Poems. He wrote the Earth Anthem and the South Asian Anthem for an official SAARC Anthem, for which he is known most. He received the SAARC Literary Award for his contribution to contemporary South Asian Poetry, and has been called for inscribing India’s very old concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (which literally means "the world is one family”) in the premises of UN and to set up National Poetry Library in India. Currently Abhay’s name is included in the list of top 5 contemporary poets from India.

Chhabilapur near Rajgir in Nalanda district of Bihar is the home town of this popular poet. After completing his higher education from JNU, he joined Indian Foreign Service in 2003 and learnt many foreign languages and policies. His first book titled River Valley to Silicon Valley was published in 2007, which includes the popular poem, 'Soul Song’. The Eight-Eyed Lord of Kathmandu (2017) and The Seduction of Delhi (2015) are among his recent poetry collections. He co-founded the 'Poetry at the Monument' poetry movement in Delhi, and also 'Poemandu'in Kathmandu, Nepal and 'Cha com Letras' in Brasilia, Brazil. His poems have appeared in several magazines and literary journals across the globe receiving positive reviews. Abhay has also participated in numerous literary festivals across the world.

Abhay Kumar, a well-known Indian poet known globally, has been nominated for several literary awards and honours in the recent times. He has been called "The Sage Indian of Brasilia" by Mint Lounge. The recipient of the prestigious SAARC Literary Award, he has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize 2013. He received Gov 2.0 award by Ministry of External Affairs, India, Asia-Pacific Excellence Award 2014 and many more. His name was also included in Forbes India 100 Celebrity list.
