Abhay Deol Biography

Abhay Deol is an Indian actor and film producer. Many of his family members are involved in film industry. His uncle Dharmendra is a famous film actor and Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are his cousins.

 

He was born on 15th March 1976 in Mumbai. His father is Ajit Deol. Ajit is the younger brother of actor Dharmendra. He grew up in Mumbai and is living in Mumbai. His father did not like him taking acting as his career. He stated this in an interview with Rediff. But he is interested in acting since his school days. He wanted to enter film industry when he was 18 but he could achieve his dream only at the age of 28 after 10 long years as he wanted to complete his education first.

 

His debut film was Socha Na Tha in 2005. Then he acted in the film Ahista Ahista next year. His first commercial success was Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. in 2007. He appeared in the film Ek Chalis Ki Last Local. His film Manorama Six Feet Under won him Best Film Award at the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival held in New York City. He got Best Actor Award for this.

 

He became extremely popular for his release in 2008, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! He played the role of Devdas in the film Dev. D. Nikhat Kazmi and this film got 5 stars in the review of Times of India. He took place in the cover of Man’s World magazine and Time Out Mumbai magazine.

 

In the 50 most desirable hotties poll of Zoom in 2009 he got the seventh place. He started his own film production company Forbidden Films and the first film under this banner was Basra. He acted in the film Road, Movie with Tannishtha Chatterjee. This was screened at Toronto International Film Festival.

 

He has learned the martial art of Israel, Krav Maga. He also undertook training in deep sea diving for the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara that was filmed in Spain. He was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for the film Socha Na Tha. The movie Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! won National Award for Best Popular Film. The film Dev. D got 6 Filmfare Awards in 2009.
