Abhash Kumar Biography 
Abhash Kumar, also known as ‘The Bridge Cop’ is a renowned police officer in Tamil Nadu, best known for his involvement in the construction of a 40-foot bridge over a channel at Virudunagar, Tamil Nadu. Kumar originally hails from Pune, and belongs to 1990 batch of the prestigious Indian Police Service. He is associated with Tamil Nadu Police. He is also an author who has published many non-fiction works in English such as Muslims in Tamilnadu and Compendium on Terrorists, Insurgents and Extremists Groups in India, and a novel in Hindi, Hashiye Par.
As an administrator associated with IPS, he has served some elite positions within Tamil Nadu government; Superintendent of Police of Kanyakumari and Virudunagar Districts, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order and Traffic in Chennai Metropolitan Police, Commissioner of Police of Salem and Madurai Cities, Deputy Inspector General of Police of Salem and Thanjavur Ranges etc to mention a few. He was one of the first police officers in India to constitute Human Rights Cells, at the police station level.
Abhash Kumar hails from Patna, Bihar. He completed his graduation from JNU. He belongs to 1990 IPS batch, and was posted at Tamil Nadu. Since then he has been associated with maintenance of law and order within the state. He came to limelight for the first time for supressing religious riots in certain parts of Tamil Nadu and also for being instrumental in constructing a 40-foot bridge over a channel at Virudunagar. From Law & Order to Traffic to Training, Abhash served in the Intelligence Wing as the Inspector General of Police (Internal Security) for three years.
He has published a few columns in leading Indian newspapers. A few of them to note - "I don't want half the things I buy”, "Afghan Specter on India – A Historical Perspective", "Security Threat to South India", "Cycle of Destiny", "Extra–Ordinary Perception" etc. He has published a research paper on "Extra-Ordinary Perception".
