Aasif Mandvi Biography

Aasif Mandvi is an Indian-American actor and comedian who is associated with American shows and Hollywood movies. He is also working as a correspondent on ‘The Daily Show’ since 2006. His full name is Aasif Hakim Mandviwala and he is a Maharastrian. He is associated with acting since early 1990s. Hollywood film Million Dollar Arm, released in May 2014 is his latest film appearance. The movie was directed by Ash Vasudevan, of Indian origin. Currently he appears in the television series – ‘The Brink’ and ‘Us & Them’. He is also the producer and writer of the Television series, ‘Us & Them’.

He was born in a Muslim family in Mumbai in 1966. At the age of one, his family moved to Bradford, England. While at England his father ran a corner shop and his mother worked as a nurse. Mandvi schooled at Woodhouse Grove School. At the age of 16 his family moved to Tampa, Florida. He graduated in theater from University of South Florida and worked with Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. He later moved to New York, where he worked as an actor and also associated with a band. The one-man show - Sakina's Restaurant made him popular and he even won an Obie Award, beginning a new career as an actor.

With 1990s he got associated with Hollywood movies doing supporting roles. He also regularly acted in many television serials. No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers, Law & Order, Eddie, The Seige, Die Hard with a Vengeance and Nash Bridges are some of his popular appearances onscreen and television. He is also associated with theater. In 2012 he played title role in ‘Disgraced’, which earned 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
