A. Sreekar Prasad Biography

A. Sreekar Prasad is a very talented film editor who has won many state, Filmfare and national awards for excellence in film editing. He edits films belonging to Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and English languages. He won National award for best editing in feature films 6 times, Special jury award once and : Best Non-Feature Film Editing once, thus becoming one of the most versatile film editors in the country of the past two and a half decades. His name is included in Limca Book of records for holding a record 8 National Awards and for wide contribution to the Indian cinema in several languages.

 

He won it for the first time for Hindi movie, Raakh in 1989 and last time for Hindi movie, Firaaq in 2008. In between, he won best editor in feature film category four times for the movies - Rag Birag (1997), The Terrorist (1998), Vaanaprastham (2000 - Malayalam) and Kannathil Muthamittal (2002 – Tamil). In 1997, he was a winner of two awards in the editing section – feature and non-feature films. He won it in the non-feature film section for Nauka Caritramu. Last time, he won it in the year 2010 for two Malayalam films in the special Jury award. He won it for Mammootty movies - Kutty Srank, Keralavarma Pazhassiraja and Bollywood movie, Kaminey.

 

Akkineni Sreekar Prasad is the nephew of Telugu film doyen L. V. Prasad. His father was film editor Akkineni Sanjivi, brother of L. V. Prasad. Sreekar graduated in Literature from University of Madras. He learned the art of film editing from his father through Telugu films. Yet he gained stardom through Malayalam and Tamil movies. He achieved Kerala state awards for the first time for the movie Yodha, followed by Karunam, Vaanaprastham, Jalamarmmaram (1999), Shesham (2001), Anandabhadram (2005) and Pazhassiraja (2009). He received Filmfare awards twice for Firaaq and Dil Chahta hai. Alaippayuthey (2000), Aayitha Ezhuthu and Yuva (2004), Athadu (2005), Guru (2007), Billa (2007) and Thuppakki (2012) are other noted works.
