A. S. Joby (malayalam Actor) Biography

Joby is a Malayalam film actor best known for comic roles. In 2018 he won Kerala state awards (Jury – special mention) for the highly acclaimed film 'Mannakattiyum Kariyilayum'. He portrayed the lead role of a poor man Balan in the movie. He is associated with Malayalam cinema since 1980s, best associated with slapstick comedy and has been a part of several comedy films with ensemble cast since then. He is also a television artist and stand-up comedian quite popular among masses. Till now Joby has performed in over 3,000 stages across the state right from his hometown Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.

Though he is associated with Malayalam cinema for more than three decades, Joby only got type casted as a comedian onscreen with only a few scenes, and his real talent is yet to be explored. Yet he is popular among Malayalam audience, and his stage shows too are quite popular. This ‘little man’ earned his first recognition from film industry only in 2018, after playing the lead role in 'Mannakattiyum Kariyilayum'. It’s a full-fledged and serious role, for the first time happened in his life, and he was nervous while handling this role. State awards too came so expected.

Joby hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He has been a star artist right from his childhood, who actively participated in cultural events and competitions. He won many prizes in school and college level competitions. Currently he is a government employee and currently working as manager of KSFE. He started his professional career with mimicry and stage performances. He marked his acting debut with Balachandra Menon’s family drama Achuvettante Veedu in 1987. He was most active in the film industry in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Nowadays he appears occasionally only in movies, and sometimes he takes breaks for 2 or 3 years.
