A. L. Vijay Biography 
A. L. Vijay is a successful film director of Tamil, best known for the movies - Kireedam, Deiva Thirumagal, Madrasapattinam and Thaandavam. His brother Udhaya is a film actor and their father A. L. Azhagappan is a film producer who formerly served as the President of Tamil Nadu Producers Council. He has also appeared in one Tamil movie – Easan. In June 2014, he got married to one of the top heroines of South Indian movies - Amala Paul and their engagement and marriage were faced huge media coverage and a bit of controversies as well.
Vijay was associated with advertisement world directing independent movies. He also worked as an assistant to Priyadarshan since 2003 and then moved to ad world for a brief period. He directed more than 100 popular ads under the banner ‘Venus Ad Films’. He won CNBC’s Best Corporate Advertisement Award in 2009 for an SBI ad. He made his directorial debut through remake of Malayalam classic - Kireedam (1989), with the same title. The movie starred Ajith Kumar and Rajkiran in pivot roles, who reprised the memorable roles of Mohanlal and Thilakan respectively. The movie was praised by critic, though it has been remade on silver screen several times before. Its climax was changed from a sad to an upbeat ending to draw audience to theaters and it proved successful too.
His second venture was Tamil remake of Hindi satire – Khosla ka ghosla. It was for the first time in Tamil cinema, a promotional song was shot for the movie. His real breakthrough was Madrasapattinam, an original script and there was no turning back after that. Arya and Amy Jackson played the main leads. Amala Paul worked with him for the first time in Deiva Thirumagal and later she appeared in his ‘Thalaivaa’ opposite Vijay. Commercial hit Saivam, released in 2014 is his latest release.
