A. Jagannathan Biography 
A. Jagannathan is a south Indian film director, who has made a few Bollywood movies too. In south Indian cinema, he directed Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films. He worked in film industry as an assistant director for long 15 years since late 1950s, and marked his directorial debut with Tamil film Manipayal in 1973. Till 1985, he worked in Tamil movies only, and later did a few movies in other languages. He directed Bollywood film, Tahqiqaat in 1993, and also Telugu films - Khaidi No. 1, Rahasya Hanthakudu, Khaidi, Mamaku Yamudu etc since mid-1980s. He predominantly worked in Tamil cinema, and has also directed one Kannada film – Dharmathma in 1988.
A. Jagannathan was born on 26 November 1935 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. He joined film industry in the late 1950s and worked under different directors like T. Prakash Rao and P. Neelakantan. His passion to films prompted him to stay in the industry as an assistant for long 15 years before he made his first independent film in 1973. His first flick, Manipayal was a family-children film with Master Sekhar and Baby Indra playing the lead roles. Playback singer Jayachandran made his debut in Tamil as a singer with the song "Thangachimizh Pol" in this film. His debut work got appreciated, and later he stayed active in the industry for next three decades or so.
He directed Sivaji Ganesan in award winning Vellai Roja and M. G. R in Idhayakkani. Remake of Malayalam film Postmortem, Vellai Roja bagged him Filmfare award for best film director. Moondru Mugam is yet another famous movie of Jagannathan starring Rajinikanth. He remade the bold Malayalam film Chattakkari into Tamil titled Oh Maane Maane. Its Hindi version made in 1970s was titled Julie. He also directed a few television serials towards the end of his career. He passed away in Coimbatore in 7 October 2012 aged 76.
