A. E. Muthunayagam Biography 
A. E. Muthunayagam is a leading Space Scientist of ISRO and the chief architect of Rocket Propulsion in India. He is also known as Father of Propulsion Technology in India and he took an important role in the establishment of India’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. The Founder Director of LPSC, he served on chair for 9 years during 1985 - 1994. Secretary of Department of Ocean Development, Executive Vice-President in Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai are some of the major positions held by him during his active years.
A. E. Muthunayagam hails from Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. His full name is Abraham .E. Muthunayagam. He was born on 11 January 1939. He completed mechanical engineering from the University of Madras in 1960 and Master’s from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1962. He took doctorate in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, USA in 1965, followed by LLB from Kerala University in 1975.
His professional career in ISRO began as Head of Propulsion Engineering Division, SSTC. From there on, he moved upwards and held many elite positions within the institution. Apart from Indian Space Research Organisation, he has been associated with Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, Department of Oceanography, IIT, Madras and was also a member of Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment, government of Kerala during his active years. After retirement he has been associated with Karunya University and Noorul Islam University, Kumarakovil.
He was a fellow at Indian National Academy of Engineering, Aeronautical Society of India, Astronautical Society of India, The Institution of Engineers (India) and Foreign Member of Academy of Cosmonautics, Moscow, Russia.
