Why Did Laxmi-Pyare Compromised With Their Real Talent During 80's?

If we take the total count of film songs of Bollywood, the composers who take position first is none other than Laxmikanth-Pyarelal. They have enriched Bollywood music from early 60’s to late 90’s till Laxmikanth passed away. It’s not at all easy to note their contributions – From Dosti and Parasmany to Khalnayak, they have given significant contribution to music world in their own way.

Let me try to list 10 best movies of their career apart from Dosti and Parasmany – Shagird, Sargam, Amar Akbar Antony, Satyam Sivam Sundaram, Mehbood ki mehandi, Bobby, Karz, Ayi din bahar ke, Hero and Milan. Uf! I am struggling – now also a lot of movies left! If you clearly observe the above 10 movies, you can see that apart from Karz and Hero of 1980, none has made position into top 10. If you take 15 best, perhaps Prem Rog, Mr.India and Chal baaz may or may not reach there. This musical pair has created many records in Filmfare awards too. Yet, what should we observe from the above list of 15?

It’s definitely true that 80’s and afterwards is the worst phase of Laxmi-Pyare though a few exceptions are there. It was a time when great composers of Indian music had already set. Apart from him only composer remained was R.D.Burman. It’s believed that among all composers of India, it was Laxmi-Pyare who had the strongest base in Indian classical music and sur, even more talented that Shankara Jaikishen and S.D.Burman. Yet, with sorrow I need to say that they compromised their talent with fast numbers of 80’s!

It was during 1980’s that Laxmi-Pyare gave maximum songs to Bollywood – the worst era of Bollywood music with fast numbers and unpleasant tunes. Let me ask you a simple question. Though Laxmi-Pyare has given numerous tunes to music lovers during 80’s and had appealed the youth with those fast tracks, how many of those songs do you remember at present? I am sure, except Prem rog, Karz, Sanjog, Hero, Chalbaaz and a few finger countable movies nothing is left in your memory. Everything has just disappeared. It’s hard to even imagine that it’s the same composer of 80’s who has given us songs of Shagird, Jeene ki raah, Do Raaste  and Dost during 60’s and Abhinetri, Izzat and Dream girl during 70’s. Now also, if we list their best compositions, 60’s and 70’s will of course take the first place.  Yes, in true sense they comprised their real talent with the demand of the market! That’s why it’s told, even if fast tracks catch our eyes first, they leave our soul very soon without any traces left! Yes, true it is!
