We Are Not Getting Kohinoor Back

No Kohinoor for us

This is final now, we are not going to get back Kohinoor the 105-carat diamond as we had expected that British Prime Minister would oblige us and approve our demand while he visited India recently. No, he does not believe in returns, therefore a ‘no’ was the answer. He says Greece has been asking for Elgin marble for such a long time but British government has no plans to give it back as well. While on the subject, I must tell you that Elgin marble is famous Greek marble that was brought to England and Greece had been demanding it back for years. The fact is there are so many Greek statues made of famous Greek marble in England and Britain is in no mood of returning any of them.

The British premier David Cameroon thought that the diamond belongs to his country and there were no plans to give it back to India or any other items to any other countries who were claiming these items. Hence, we lost the final hopes of diamond coming back to India.

Presently the Kohinoor diamond, which was taken to England during British rule over India, is in London tower and fixed in crown of Queen Elizabeth. The famous Kohinoor diamond, which was presented to British Queen Victoria in 1850 by then governor general of India, is presently set in official crown of Queen. Although we have been asking, British authorities for its return for a long time and some of the prominent figures have agreed to as well but there does not seem to be a chance for the same, as they never kept their words.

As per my information princess Kate, wife of Prince William may wear crown decorated with out diamond on the special occasions. Although I am not happy that we are not getting our priceless item back however I am satisfied that one of our most precious stones sits right on top of English queens. I would like to quote some of the interesting comments made by some of my friends while they heard Prim Minister Cameroon’s remarks.

1- I wish we could take it back from 10- Downing Street to put it in 10-Janpath road.

2- I am not worried for Kohinoor because maybe some one like Kalmadi would use it for his tiepin instead.

History of Kohinoor

The famous Kohinoor diamond was found in Golkonda mines, which came finally to Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 16th century before going to Nadir Shah the ruler of Persia. In 1800, Maharaja Ranjit Singh captured it while he defeated Nadir Shah. Later British government snatched it from Ranjit Singh to present it to Queen Victoria in 1850 to be decorated in the crown of Queen Elizabeth-1.
