Visit The Historical City Of Raipur

 

Raipur was formerly one of the important cities of Madhya Pradesh and after the formation of the Chhattisgarh state it was made as its capital. It has a glorious past with the rule of Satawahana dynasty until 300 AD followed by Gupta dynasty until 600 AD. These things were brought to limelight after the excavations done at the city.

 

Raipur is situated in the plains and is also known as the rice bowl of India. This is a fertile land as the perennial river Mahanadi flows through this region and so many varieties of rice are grown here. Raipur has tropical wet and dry climatic condition that has mild and moderate temperature in most parts of the year. However the summer months are quite hot and not suited for tourist activities. The winter months are always pleasant making it an ideal time for tourism.

 

Vivekananda airport situated in Raipur is one of the busiest airports of this region and serves as an important gateway to Central India. The airport is situated about 15 kilometers from the main city. Being prominently places in the Mumbai to Howrah train route, many important trains pass through the city making it an important railway junction. Apart from the major railway station, there are eight other smaller stations namely WRS Colony Railway Station, Mandhar Railway Station, Saraswati Railway Station, Sarona Railway Station, Telibandha Terminal and Mana. Raipur is connected with other Indian cities through the national highways NH 6, NH 43, NH 200, NH 12 A and NH 217.

 

The local transportation needs and intra city transport is served by the Raipur City Bus Limited and the paratransit systems like auto rickshaw, tuk tuk, cars and taxis. Raipur is indeed a major commercial center of the state and hence it is always populated with business people. Also it is a regional hub for trade, commerce and agriculture and so the influx of tradesmen is seen all through the year.

 

Though it is one of the busiest business places, it is not totally devoid of tourist attractions. There are some places worth visiting here such as Mahant Ghasidas Museum, Guru Tegh Museum, Nnandavan, Shaheed Smarak Bhavan, Mahakoshal Kala Parishad, Water World Resort, Nagar Ghadi, Pukhauti Muktangan Museum and Vivekananda Sarovar.

 

Apart from the above said places there are some getaways such as Chitrakoot Falls, Indravati National Park, Amarkantak, Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhoramdeo Temple and Kanha National Park. Raipur is one of the very few cities in India having 5D theatres. So do not forget to visit one of them.

 

Raipur is the clothes hub where you can buy the best garments at affordable rates. You can find collection of clothes at Pandri Market and Chhattisgarh mall. For quenching your appetite after a tiresome shopping, you need to lookout for good Raipur restaurants and some of them are located in Phool Chowk, Sadar Bazar and Mahaveer Thali Jail Road.
