Vascular tumor

You might have seen or heard about red or skinned colored tumors appearing on neck, arms, feet etc with palpation like the one as pulse beat. These could be cause of vascular tumor and need an immediate attention of vascular surgeon.

Vascular tumor shaped cherry like and reddish in color is a lump, which is known as Hemangioma, Angioma, Venus malformation or Aneurism commonly known as vascular tumor, basically abnormal buildup of blood vessels. 

Reason for vascular tumors

Most vascular tumors are by birth, which occur due to problems in arteries by birth in a child although too small in the beginning but increase in size with the age and some times grow abnormally big. These may take place due to accidents or injuries if the blood vessels deformed and veins weakened.

The veins expend to take lump’s shape due to pressure of blood because these cannot withstand the pressure of blood by the impact of injuries sustained during accident etc.

There could be other reasons like diabetes or excess of cholesterol in blood, which can cause deposit of fat in veins resulting ultimately in vascular tumors. These tumors are called Aneurism in medical terms.

How to confirm

If you ever noticed soft lumps on your body parts especially hands, legs or back etc, which increased gradually in teenage, it could be vascular tumor. Alternatively, if you ever sustained an injury on your legs, thighs or hands etc and swelling increasing in place of decreasing despite treatment, this again is sign of Aneurism. I must forewarn you at this point that if you are over 40 and suffering from high cholesterol or diabetes and you often feel pain in back or stomach, the chances are that you might be suffering from vascular tumor or it has started taking shape in your body. The best suggestion for you is to see your surgeon and have a thorough checkup.

Test and Treatment

Your vascular surgeon would suggest you color Doppler test, CT Angiography or MR Angiography test to ascertain your problem because if you delay these tests the chances of bursting the tumor increase or even gangrene is possible due to blockage of blood. Most doctors suggest surgery but there are alternate and advance ways of treatments depending upon the age of patient and his symptoms.
