Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is the oldest bus transport service company in Kerala. It was established on April 1, 1965. Old name is Travancore State Transport Department, founded by Travancore King Sree Chithira Thirunal Balaramavarma on February 20, 1938. KSRTC buses registration started from series KL-15. In 1995 KSRTC established an Engineering College for technical education named Sree Chithira Thirunal Engineering College at Pappanamcode, Trivandrum. KSRTC consists of 70 depot station and about 5000 schedules are operating daily.

Services are operated by various type of buses namely Ordinary, City ordinary, City Double Decker, Ananthapuri Fast, Fast Passenger, Super Express, Low floor AC and latest Garuda Deluxe.

Ordinary Bus:   It is the only bus where minimum bus charge was taken. This type of bus operates less kilometer comparing to other buses. It has stop at all point approved by the Corporation members. Students can travel with concession in this type of bus. This bus is red in color.

Rajadhani bus: This bus operates in a circular way beginning and ending connects in the same point. It has minimum fare much greater than ordinary. This model is orange color and has only limited stop.

Double Decker: This bus is the proud of KSRTC. It has 15 years heritage. It really means two storied bus with one conductor and one driver. This bus is running between Eastfort and Shangumugam Beach from Trivandrum city Depot.  A huge crowd of passengers can be seen during holidays. We can see children are enjoying very much on travelling double decker bus.  Sitting seats are only allowed in the top of the bus. Only a less number of buses are owned in this model.    

Ananthapuri fast:  It has minimum fare greater than ordinary but not as much as fast passenger. This bus is called chain services, three or more buses running an interval between half an hour to the same destination. This bus is white in color and much longer than other buses. It has only limited stop.

Low floor AC:  It is also called Volvo bus. Fully air conditioned with FM Radio and TV. Its minimum fare is greater than fast bus. It is orange colored bus. In this model green color bus also, that is non AC.

Garuda deluxe:  This bus is mainly running between Trivandrum and Bangalore. Online ticket booking is also available in this type. It is highly luxurious bus with lots of facilities.
