Now it’s monsoon time – The season of colourful umbrellas. If we closely observe the umbrellas in markets, we can notice that designs and patterns are changing so quickly similar to the dark rain season of this monsoon. Through this column I would like to briefly explain different types and patterns of umbrellas that are available in Indian market this monsoon. Buy one that suits you the best and enjoy the rain stepping into it.

Fashion world is taking umbrellas of different colours and patterns. What’s variety and unique in pattern gets attention first. When rains reach our premises, umbrellas are also included in our accessories.  Earlier black was the only colour normally used. But black colour has slowly started changing. Youth wants to choose an attractive colour than black, to make it a part of their accessories. What fashion for umbrellas? Don’t ask me more. Let me give a brief idea to give you some choices.

When we think about monsoon fashion, it’s not easy to imagine without umbrellas. Latest trend is the matching colour shade that suits costumes and other accessories most. Youth is willing to get wet in rain a little bit. Only thing they want is a good attractive umbrella that catches the eyes of everyone.

Earlier people used to use banana leaf and similar leaves to go to school and to fields. Their only necessity was not to get wet in rain. When time demanded a change, umbrellas also noticed such trend changes. Umbrellas with lengthy handle were once used by senior people. It was considered as stylish. Umbrellas without handles that can be fit in the head were used by peasants to do work in fields. Palm leaves were also substituted. Such umbrellas are still available in the remote villages. When trend changed, lengthy umbrellas became shortened and began to get folded. Two fold, three fold, five-fold and the latest is nano! Umbrellas have a lot of stories to tell you. Such umbrellas are convenient to place inside the bags, no need to fear that you will forget it somewhere.

At present, attractive umbrellas are available in markets aiming at small kids. Attractive colours, cartoon characters of their favourite, printed fruits like apple, strawberry etc, rainbow colours, gun umbrellas, Barbie style, Mickey Mouse etc catch kids’ eyes first. Now umbrellas with lengthy handle have returned to campus with colourful shades and patterns. Ladies get attracted to umbrellas with frill and well designed edges. Auto lock, silver coating, handles with attractive ribbons, Kanchipuram – these patterns show that designs in umbrellas are not static.
