Rajastan basically means Raja-stan- the abode of the kings. Rajasthan is a major state of the Indian Republic. Rajasthan shares its border with Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. It also shares its border with Pakistan. Total area covered by Rajasthan is 342239 square km.

Jaipur is the largest city of Rajasthan and also its capital. Geographical features of Rajasthan include Ghaggar River and the Thar Desert being the most prominent ones.

Indus Valley Civilization’s main province capital was Rajasthan. Traditionally, the Rajputs, Jats, Meenas, Gurjars, etc. had a huge involvement in building Rajasthan. Great difficulties were suffered by these tribes in protecting their land and culture. Gurjars were eliminated in Ajmer and Bhinmal areas, combating with invaders.

The main economy of Rajasthan is pastoral and agriculture. Barley and wheat are cultivated in majority and so are oilseeds, pulses and sugarcane. Tobacco and cotton are the cash crops of the state. Rajasthan is oilseed’s largest producer. It is also largest producer of wool. The water used for purpose of irrigation comes from tanks and well. Dilwara temples, Jantar Mantar, Lake Palace are considered as India’s proper architectural heritage. Jaipur is popularly known as the pink city.
