It’s the most known fact that R.D.Burman has used Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar’s voice to sing maximum of his songs, particularly during 1970’s and 1980’s. Yet he reserved a few gems for his sister-in-law Lata Mangeshkar too. Though maximum of those numbers are duets opposite Kishore Kumar, I would like to list a few solo hits of Lata Mangeshkar where music was given by none other than R.D. I may miss many gems, yet it is my honest attempt to do so.

Kya jaanu sajan: Before Aradhana fame, R.D.Burman has given maximum songs to Lata Mangeshkar than his wife Asha Bhosle. Kya jaanu sajan of Baharom ke sapne is one such. This lovely song is pictured on Asha Parekh.

Aaja Piya tohe pyar doon: Yet another gem from Baharom ke sapne. This song was pictured on Rajesh Khanna and Asha Bhosle. This song not only comforts Rajesh Khanna in the song picturization but also soothes listeners’ souls a lot.

Na jaa o mere humdum: Yet another song before R.D.Burman-Rajesh Khanna combination took place. This song is from the movie Pyar ka mausam. Again the heroine is Asha Parekh.

Na koi umang hai:  This solo sad song was pictured on Asha Parekh and the movie is Katti Patang. This movie gave her a Filmfare awards too.

Dilbur dil se pyare: It seems majority of Asha Parekh’s songs were composed by R.D.Burman. This particular song of Caravan was pictured on Aruna Irani and Jeetendra. Yet, you can see Asha Parekh in this song too.

Beethe na bithaye raina: Everyone says R.D.Burman westernizes Indian tunes. This song of Parichay is the best example to prove it wrong. This song was pictured on Jaya Baduri and Sanjeev Kumar and has both male and female versions too.

Rahna beethi jaai: Yet another example to prove that R.D is proficient in Indian classic music too. This song pictured on Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna belongs to the classic movie ‘Amar Prem’.

Bahom mein chali aao: Anamika is one among the amazing compositions of Burman da. This particular song pictured on Jaya Baduri and Sanjeev Kumar still robs millions of music lovers all over the world.   

Tere bina jiya laage naa: What more to say about this lovely song of Rekha from the movie ‘Ghar’! This movie contains a few Lata Mangeshkar-Kishore Kumar combnation numbers too.

Agar tum na hote: The title song of Agar tum na hote has two versions: Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. The songs are pictured on Rajesh Khanna and Rekha.

Let me mention a few more songs that come to my mind right now – Bada natkhad hai of Amar Prem, Mein chali and bhai battoor of Padosan, Kaata laga, Tune o rangeela kaisa jaadu kiya and Ab ken a sawan barse.
