When you sit alone and think in silence to bring back the past happy moments, certainly there will be a flow of thoughts that will make you smile all by yourself. These magical moments are what that makes our life go smooth and lessen our stresses. Those who have learned to love this life will have more number of such magical moments. That is why the lovers have them often. When they are in love the life appears sweeter to them and so they love every day of their life more than anyone else.
If you think of any of your magical moments, there will surely be a story behind that. Sometimes a song heard from a great distance will remind you of the old golden days. Sometimes the smell of the flower pervading the atmosphere will take you to your dreamland. Even the church bell, the blowing breeze, the cuckoo’s tune and the starry sky may instill a different mood in you. This is what the great poet Rabindranath Tagore has expressed in his nostalgic poem about mother. He says that the distant tune, the fragrant flower and the stillness of the night sky brings him the thoughts of his diseased mother.
The end results of these moments differ from people to people. If you are an architect, you get inspiration for your new structure. If you are a moody person, your mood changes suddenly. If you are in love your bond gets strengthened. But these instances are very special to the poets who see them as the manifestation of the nature. I experienced one such magical moment in my life which gave birth to a poem. I was sitting on the veranda of my house. There was a neem tree in the house next door. The leaves of the neem tree fall inside my house making me angry at times. But from that special day onwards, the neem tree became a solace from the stressful life.
That neem tree was the haven of hundreds of birds. It was an evening time darker than usual. There were signs of the upcoming rainfall. The birds flocked together to the tree seeking their nests and the hands of the tree sways as though they were welcoming the birds. Soon the pitter-patter droplets reached the soil. This gave birth to a poem originally written in Tamil language. One of the crazy fans of my blog composed tune to this poem making it a song and it was posted in YouTube. The Tamil poem is here and the song in YouTube is here. Below is the English translation of the poem. Hope you will enjoy this!
In A Rainy Evening…..
What do I see in the swaying neem leaves?
What message the moving breeze leaves?
Good time started in all my ways
Gone are the sorrows of the olden days
The crows flap their wings at ease
Why does the cuckoo sing to appease?
Showers of rain and the blows of the breeze
And the smell of the soil surpasses all these.
Why do all the birds go to rest?
Why do the branches think rain the best?
Does the white crane search its nest?
And sings the happy tune with zest?
Searches its mate, the love sick heart
With joined hands the love does start.
The lips speak with cheeks to date
And the brimming happiness will stand apart.
Towards the sweetheart the thoughts do go
The song of the lovebirds reduces the woe
Mind is entranced by the breezes’ blow
Blissful smile now starts to show.
