The Loss Of A Loved One

You never realize the worth of somebody until you realize that you cannot love them or care for them anymore. And usually, you’ll be very late by then. This happens with every one of us. We’re not to be utterly blamed for this deed since we have a natural tendency, or, it is human nature to prioritize things that are very urgent or seemingly important things to the top of our list and push personal matters (which are the real important matters) to the bottom. What do we achieve from this? Maybe mere status, money, and recognition. But, do they last?

I’ve been thrown into a similar situation a month ago. It was when my pet dog was no more did I realize the real depth of my love towards her. But it was too late to count. I remember those days when I come back from my school and college; she was the only one present to welcome me home. I did exchange pleasant greetings with her, but I never stopped to spend time with her. I regret not having spent much time with her. I could have treasured those moments if I had.

She came to me when I was of age 8, and was with me for about 11 years. She was a loving German shepherd. She was very cute that I and my mom never left her in the floor; we used to carry her in and around our home 24*7. You may have read quotes like ‘Nobody can love you like a dog do’. I had realized it through her. She proved it each day. She never expected anything in return for her love, which we human always do. She was furious if anybody entered our home without permission, even if it was a snake. She had killed around 10 snakes that had entered our home. In fact, she had risked her own life in the pursuit to save us. She was brought to us around March of 2007 but we had been told that she was about 40 days old, and I had calculated her birthday to be on 30th of January. I remembered her birthday every year and did wish her, but I never bothered to buy her any gifts. Even a chocolate would have served the purpose. And I deliberately regret that now.

Every one of us knows that there’s limited time in our lives. So, we shall never attempt to do deeds that’ll make you regret it later in your life. Life should be lived to serve the ones we love and not to waste it on momentous pleasures.
