The Best Child Artist Roles Of Bollywood Silver Screen

Though Bollywood is regarded as far away from real screen, there are a few characters which steal our hearts and stay with us forever, though we can’t deny the fact that they are mere characters portrayed by some actors. Through this article I would like to mention a few such characters which remain close to our hearts.

Darsheel Safary in Tare Zameen Par: Though Aamir Khan played a pivot role in the movie the star of the show was a young boy with a ‘special tooth’ - Darsheel Safary. He played the role of dyslexic child bringing to screen various shades of emotions and make us feel like crying too, in a few scenes. Through this movie, he became the youngest actor to be nominated in Filmfare Best Actor category. He also received Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, the youngest actor to receive this award. He was later seen in Bumm Bumm Bole, Midnight's Children and Zokkomon.

Master Raju in Chitchor – He was the top child artist of Bollywood 1970s who portrayed many signature roles like Baawarchi, Parichay and Kitaab. Yet his role as Deepu is a memorable one.

Sana Saeed in Kuch kuch hota hai – SRK’s 8 year old daughter Anjali was the pivot character of this 1998 blockbuster. This intelligent girl was never seen in a child artist role later and has now moved on to adult roles.

Master Titto in Aa gale lag ja – The handicapped boy singing the song – Tera mujhse hai pehle of Aa gale lag jaa stole everyone’s heart. Later this song’s lyrics – ‘Jaane tu yaa jane na’ was used for a blockbuster hit in the recent times. One of the popular child artists of his time, this role as the son of Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore definitely deserves a place in my list.

Master Mayur in Muquaddar ka Sikander – He played the role of young Amitabh Bachchan in quite a number of movies. But the song – Oh saathi re and wonderful screen presence of Mayur makes this role special to everyone who has missed his love in life!

Baby Priyanka in Mr. India – The death of wonderful girl Tina in a bomb blast is the painful moment of Mr. India. She was the cutest of all the child artists in the movie and definitely deserves a place in my list.

Neetu Singh in Do kaliyan – Neetu played double role of sisters in 1968 movie – Do kaliyan. Mala Sinha and Biswajeet played her parents’ role.

Jugal Hansraj in Masoom – And the last, but not the least. Jugal played lead role in Bollywood movies like ‘Papa kehte hain’ in the 1990s. Yet, none of his role equalizes ‘Masoom Magic’ on screen. Baby Aradhana’s name also needs special mention.

Shweta Prasad in Maqdee, Harsh Mayer in I am Kalam, Partho Numaan of Stanley ka dabba, Parzan Dastur in Kuch Kuch Hota hai, Swini Khara in Cheeni Kum, Taruni Sachdev in Paa, Master Aditya of ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’, Aman Siddiqui of Bhootnath, Parth Bhalerao of Bhootnath returns and Kunal Khemu of Zakhm also need special mention.
