• Some of the children who are born underweight need more care than normal children do. Children born before normal delivery schedule come into the category, which need to be taken care of maintaining body temperature. Although the Kangaroo technique or body heat is most effective but doctor in some cases advice a permanent bulb light near their place to keep them warm.

• Kids have very little resistance to fight with infections therefore; they should be given BCG, DPT, Anti Measles, Polio drops etc. as prescribed by your doctor.

• Never try to lay your child on bed immediately after feeding him but keep him in your lap for some time until he burps properly to release gases from his digestive system. If you fail to do this, he may throw the ilk or feel very uncomfortable. There are chances of milk going to his lungs or respiratory system also.

• Check time to time that your child does not sleep in one position only but keep changing his position so that he does not sustain pain in the process. Use a soft cotton pillow under his head to keep his head in good shape. Whenever you lift him, support his head and neck to avoid strain.

• Do not feed him whenever he weeps because he may have different reasons for weeping other than hunger. Make a proper feeding plan to keep him healthy and avoid indigestion.

•Take proper care to clean him every time he passes stool or urine because keeping his private parts is must to avoid infection and rashes.

• Massage your baby properly and with light hands as your baby has very tender skin. Use good massage oils meant for babies like olive oil or almond oil etc. Begin massage after he reaches the age of at least one month.

• Be very careful while giving your baby a bath, use warm water in winters and lukewarm in summers.

• Use talcum powder on lower parts only as it may enter his respiratory system if used on upper parts.
