“Chayya chayya chayya” – When Shah Rukh Khan danced on the top of the train along with item girl, Mallaika Arora singing this song, it was something like film lovers have never witnessed before. Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awathi provided vocals for them. Lovely choreographed by Farah Khan, still it remains one of the major hits of A.R.Rehman, Sukhwinder Singh or Shah Rukh Khan. Yes, it was for the first time since this great Punjabi singer came to limelight. He won his debut Filmfare award for the best playback singer male as well. Till then, this Punjabi singer has never turned back. It was for the first time, a Punjabi voice was experimented for King Khan, as Udit Narayan, Abhijeet and Kumar Sanu were his most common ghost voices. None of them were Punjabis too! Yet the idea clicked and this particular song topped all chartbusters in the year 1998.

Yet, till now, Sukhwinder Singh has sung only 5 songs for Shah Rukh in the past 15 years. A bit surprising, right? Most surprising is that all these songs were highly enjoyed by their fans too. Till now, Sukhwinder has won 5 Filmfare nominations of which three songs belong to Shah Rukh Khan also. Surprisingly, he has won it twice too and both are Shah Rukh Khan songs. So, what does it prove? Sukhwinder Singh is the best choice for Shah Rukh Khan, if he wants to deliver some high note or energetic performances.

The first song, I have already revealed. Now, let me give the list of rest 5 songs – Haule haule of Rab ne bana di Jodi, Dard-E-Disco of Om Shanti Om, Marjani marjani of Billu and  Chak de India of Chak de India. I am not sure if I have missed any hit song. Yet I feel that I have included all.  Now let me give the list of his Filmfare record too. He has won Filmfare nomination for best singer for the songs – Chayya chayya of Dil se, Ramta jogi of Taal, Haule haule of Rab ne baba di Jodi, Dan tan a of Kaminey and Title track of Chak de India. The award winning songs are Chayya and Haule haule. Though Marjaani and Dard-E-Disco have never received nominations, they are immensely popular among the public. It virtually proves that Shah Rukh – Sukhwinder Combination can create fire onscreen!
