Sonali Bendre is placed as one among the divas of Bollywood who has ruled Bollywood during 90’s. Though she is remembered for her looks and she has acted with almost all leading actors of Bollywood, she couldn’t achieve the stardom that every Bollywood star dreams for. Her career was short, yet she is a well known face everywhere who has acted in Bollywood as well as south Indian movies. She married producer-director Goldie Behl when she was fully engaged in movies and set good bye to Bollywood films. Yet she returned back through reality shows on TV like Indian Idol and India got talent. Though she couldn’t contribute much to Bollywood except a few movies like Sarfarosh, Bhai, Diljale, Mayor saab and Zakhm, her performace for Tamil movies Shankar Dada MBBS, Indra and Murari were well noted.

Sonali Bendre started her film journey in Govinda’s movie Aag in 1994. Following this movie, she was paired in a couple of movies opposite Suniel Shetty like Takkar and Rakshak. But the movies bombed at the box office. She was successful when paired with Ajay Devgan three times. Diljale, Zakhm and Mayor Saab were critically well acclaimed and were box office hits as well. She paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the flop movie – Duplicate as the lover of negative character played by SRK. In Kal ho na ho of 2004, she played Shah Rukh’s friend, a doctor who treats him.

She is a good dancer as well. No one will forget easily the dancing girl of Humma Humma song of Bombay and item song of Lajja. Her dance steps were also noted for the movies Sapoot, Takkar and Major saab. When she debut silver screen, she was awarded with Lux New face award by Filmfare and most promising new comer by Star screen awards. She won her single best actress award for the Marathi movie Anahat in 2004 and has won best actress in supporting role (Hindi) for Hamara dil aapke paas hai in 2001.

When Kathalar Dinam was released in 1999, she became a popular actress of Tamil. A.R.Rehman’s tune for the song ‘Enna vila azhake’ was enough to establish her as a fresh and lovely face of Tollywood. This movie was dubbed next year to Hindi as Dil hi dil mein. Apart from super stars, Upendra, Nagarguna, Chiranjeevi, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, she has acted with Akshay Kumar, Akshay Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Sunny Deol.
