Sneak Preview Of Big B's Career

Amitabh Bachchan – Popularly known as Big B of Bollywood is considered as the most popular and talented actor of Bollywood. He was born in UP as the son of great poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Yet, through his hard work and dedicated he proved himself to be the best actor of Bollywood. In 2000, he was awarded as the male actor of Bollywood.

Though born in an artist family, his career journey initials were not comfort. He debuted with Saat Hindusthani in 1969, as one among the 7 soldiers. He did the role of one among the supporting actors. One after another, all movies met with same fate and bombed at box office, except Anand. In 1970, he was given supporting role in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand and he did one of the best performances all time – the role of a doctor who treats Anand, a cancer patient during his last days. Anand’s role was done by Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan also justified the role very well, as a friend. But again, his career was sinking, the time when Rajesh Khanna was at peak of his career.

Incidentally he got the role in Zanjeer, the role rejected by many heroes including Rajesh Khanna and that movie was the turning point of his career. The success of Zanjeer gave him the title ‘Angry young man’, and thus arose a new era of action movies. Trend change from romantic stories to action thrillers was so quick and Amitabh continued his successful journey through a series of action packed thrillers, after 10 flops. Along with Jaya Baduri, he did a few more movies like Bawarchi and Abhimaan and they got married very soon.

Sholey was another turning point of his career. Though he did the supporting actor role, he over shaded Dharmendra, thus becoming the second super star of Bollywood.  With Deewar, he started a new series of multistar cast movies along with Sashi Kapoor. After that, he gave many blockbusters in association with Manmohan desai, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Yash Chopra and Prakash Mehra. One after another, he climbed success steps. Muquaddar ka sikander, Khoon paseena, Don, Satte pa sathe, Suhaag, Desh Premi, Shaan, Silsila, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul, Shehan Shah, Kaala Pathar, Parvarish, Coolie and Khuda Gawah were the most successful movies of Big B’s career.

He proved himself to be the best entertainer through the action and comic roles he played, though he was not proficient in romance if we compare him with actors of 50’s or 60’s. During late 90’s he changed his track and began to accept character roles. But surprisingly, we saw Big B growing with every movie he received. He got 2 National awards after he reached 60, proving himself to be the best actor onscreen.
