Shriwardhan Beach - Maharashtra

When we talk about the beaches of Maharashtra, we hardly go beyond the couple of few most popular ones like the Juhu Beach in Mumbai, The Alibag Beach, Khim beach and the Kashid beach. The reason for these beaches – apart from the Juhu Beach – becoming the hottest tourist destinations is their nearness to Mumbai. But if you are ready to put in some more travel time and go a distance, then the Shriwardhan beach is for you. Located some 220+ kkm south of Mumbai Shriwardhan boasts gentle atmosphere. The winds play in your hairs while the soft sands and the calm sea waves tingle your foot. The beach is a flat stretch making it one of the safest beaches.

The beach sees very few visitors on weekends and is an ideal destination for families, who are looking to spend a quality time together and at the same time enjoy the sea, the sand and the sun, all together. You can shop for some of the exotic local items that can be found only in the Konkan area, especially the preserves of Mango and the jackfruits are a must in your shopping list. But do not expect to see shacks, stalls or shops lining the beach, as they are not there. You will have to hit the Shriwardhan market in the town’s heart for shopping.

Shriwardhan is the original residence of the Peshwas or prime ministers of the Maratha kingdom, and you can visit the Peshwa Smarak located in the heart of the town. Harihareshwar, the twin town of Shriwardhan, is famous for the temple of Harihareshwar. It also boasts one of the tranquil and picturesque beach .

How to get there?

The nearest airport is Mumbai which is 215 kms and the nearest railhead is Mangaon located some 65 kms on Konkan Rly. Travelling by road will take you around 5 hours to reach here from Mumbai. Shriwardhan is connected by state transport busses from every major town in Maharashtra.

Where to Stay?

There are numerous homestay options and decent resorts to stay in Shriwardhan. Homestay is the best option if you really want to experience the true life of Konkan and the Knkani food – especially the fish food.
