Shilpa Chakravarthy is from Bengali family; her father worked in railway department and had transfers frequently. So she used to change her place and living and school always. When she entered into 6^th std her father got settled in Hyderabad. As they were thinking that the stay at Hyderabad is just temporary and they will shift permanently to Kolkata, they did not make any property at Hyderabad. They used to say in Tharnaka Railway Quarters, there they had all the facilities and it was just like a different world.

There she continued her Kathakali dance. She completed her studies from 6^th to 10^th in Railway mixed school. Though she had no much interest towards studies, she completed them for the sake of her parents, but she was very good at Debate just like a queen. She used to participate in long jump also. She was also giving her dance programs in the school, when once a incident took place that when she was performing the dance, her wig came out and fell down to the audience and the interesting thing was it fell in front of the judge itself. She always remembers this incident as a funniest incident in her life.

In inter she took MPC but could not study so again she changed to Bcom. Her parents wanted her to become a Railway Officer, but she was not interested. Once when she was giving her Kathakali dance show, a persons from television industry gave him the offer as a TV Achor, though she was bit hesitating her parents encouraged her and told her not to leave this chance. So she joined as a TV anhor and did the programs “Santoor Top 10, Dance Baby Dance, Meti Chitralu”. Later she got an offer to work in a TV Serial of Balaji Telefilms “Kante Kuthurni Kanali” for the characted of Komali. Though she dint know telugu, she managed to say the dialogues, she used to take too many takes for a single shot, it happened so worst that, Camera men were feeling irritated to shoot her scene. Once a co-director commented very rudely towards her performance, saying “Why do you get such Bengali people to work for Telugu TV channels as if we don’t get any Telugu people over her”, that day she cried a lot and decided to do her best. From that day she started talking in Telugu to everyone in the set and now she is a perfect Telugu female, she can talk Telugu very fluently.

After many objections from parents she got married to a journalist Mr Kalyan who was working for a English paper. Now she is a proud mother two children.
