Schools are second home to children.  They spend nearly nine hours in the school campus.  Maximum of the time they are wake up is spent in school.  So, this is where they learn good habits, enrich their knowledge in different subjects, enjoy a friendly atmosphere with peers and others.  Schools must ensure that the children are catered to each and every one of their intellectual, emotional and physical needs while they are in school.

Schools should not hesitate to provide enough of man-power and other facilities to ensure the safety of the children.  If they hesitate they might have to face the consequences.  Time and again we are able to see news about accidents published in newspapers which had occurred in schools either due to carelessness or due to lack of facilities.  Recently we are hearing such news quite often, which is really very disheartening. 

Death in school environment is something was very rare in olden days.  Parents can be assured that their children are safe at school.  This was possible as the number of students was optimum for the teacher to handle and children were also not very restless.  Now, children are very restless.  They tend to stray away from class very easily.  So when a teacher enters a class, she has to check if all the students are present in her class.  If she finds that a child is staying out for long, say even for five minutes, she has to inform the helpers to immediately look for the child.

Children must also be made aware of the dangers that may befall them and also of the safety measures against such mishaps.  Parents and teachers must take equal effort in educating them about their safety.  Schools should not operate only in the motive of making money.  They should not hesitate to spend to incorporate all the safety measures for a particular activity if they are going to take it up.  For example, when the children are in the play ground or in swimming pool, two trainers and an assistant must be posted there to ensure that the children are safely playing and if there is any accident help must be immediately provided.  A school vehicle must always be ready to take them to the nearest hospital if there is a need.
