Rural Development Programme In India - Still A Long Way To Go

Regarding the country’s economy development basically in remote areas is one of the major factors. A large number of villages are present in India among which most of them are dotted in Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. These states are popular for having wide number of rural blocks. There are two basic occupations on which these villages depend which are namely agricultural activities and small-scale industries. These small scale industries are commonly of handicrafts, poultry, dairy farms, fisheries etc. Various government policies are initiated by Ministry of Rural development in India. These policies, rules and regulations of rural development programme specifically aim on rural development in India. Apart from this, various schemes are also provided by the Government of India which focuses on roads in villages.

 

Basic factors that are included in development of rural areas are improvements in irrigation methods and facilities, electricity expansion, development of schools and colleges of villages along with other basic needs like hospitals, improvement in cultivation methods. All these factors play a vital role in development of rural areas. Most of the rural development programmes in India include all of them and some other factors as well. All the three sectors i.e. Primary, secondary and tertiary of rural economy are involved in this entire phenomenon. Also improvement in standard of living by the facilities of basic needs such as health, medical facilities, employment opportunities and educational facilities also lead to the development. It also brings a significant development in all the socio-economic related conditions. As agricultural development is one of the major factors so many programmes and schemes are initiated which include use of better agricultural products, fertilizers, pesticides, proper amount of water and other land reform steps.

 

The concept of rural development is not new and with the passage of time new improved measures and criteria is getting added up with the old ones to get best and quick results in villages. It is more a holistic concept instead of sequential one as it embraces huge number of betterment activities for villages.
