Review Of The New Malayalam Film

NERAM (Time) is a Tamil romantic which is the directorial debut of Alphonse Putharen, who has a few short films, music etc. It is good movie to watch. Although the first half may seem directionless and not fast, the second half alters the movie turning it into a good comedy suspense and action mood, altogether the movie is a good entertainer I would recommend to watch this movie . Mathew (Nivin Pauly) is a graduate in software engineering, but is now jobless. He is waiting for his good time to get a good job. Mathew has borrowed some money as loan. Now he cannot give it back as he has no job.

Mathew's childhood friend Jeena Johnykkutty (Nazriya) is ready to help him as she could. She has a job. Her father Johnykkutty (Lalu Alex) does not like Mathew and he always tries to trouble Mathew whenever he gets a chance.

At this time Mathew's good time arrives; but along with it many problems too. The gripping events that follow plot the rest of 'Neram'. Neram' is produced by Winner Bulls Films and Coral Viswanathan. Manoj K Jayan, Shammi Thilakan, and Jojo are also cast in main roles.
In 'Neram', Alphonse Puthran tries to infuse some fresh imagination into a been-there-done-that scenario and succeeds in parts. The notions hold little promise, but the adrenaline driven execution lights up things quite a bit. Quite ironically all the disclaimers that the makers have come up with have a very valid point to make. For starters, there is the inspiration quote from Tarantino himself, and 'Neram' does seem to have taken it up a bit too seriously. The hangover of QT films is definitely there, though I mean it in a very positive way.

The posters did claim that this was a film that had nothing new to it. It's a story that is as old as cinema itself, and the struggler protagonist juggling between a love life, financial constraints and a threat to his own life are all that we have seen so many, many times before. So the expected excuse would be that the treatment is different. But with so many Tamil, and even some Malayalam films churned out in the same format, even the treatment is nothing much to brag about.

But, 'Neram' does have a few remarkable moments that appear at the most unexpected of occasions. One such scene is the one in which Mathew seeks help from his friend to pay the restaurant bills. As they say, sometimes the whole universe conspires against you and this is one such instance. But the impact is truly hilarious.
