Recasting The Same Pair May Not Be Successful Always

It’s a common trend in cinema, not only Bollywood that if a particular pair clicked at box office, they may be used repeatedly at box office. No one can be blamed for this process too. In most cases such hit jodies have re-created the same magic again as they have created a good image among the public. But at least in a few cases, such experiments have resulted in disasters as well. Through this column I wold briefly mention a few such pairs that were not able to deliver the same success again onscreen.

Rani Mukherjee and Aamir Khan – As a heroine, Radha ki aayegi baarat was the debut movie of Rani which was a total failure, followed by Mehndi. In 1998, two hit movies of Rani were released – Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, opposite two big Khans of Bollywood. In KKHH, she played second lead while she was the solo heroine of Ghulam. Her pairing with Aamir and Khandala songs became immensely popular that year. Later when a patriotic movie Mangal Pandey: The Rising was made in 2005, he chose the same girl for playing the lead. It took almost four years for Aamir to grow hair and fit into the role he played. Despite being marketed in good ways, the movie failed at box office.

Hritik Roshan and Ameesha Patel – Year 2000, debutants - Hritik Roshan and Ameesha Patel and the rest was just history! The movie became the biggest blockbuster of the year and this single movie placed Hritik among the superstars of Bollywood. This successful pair was experimented once again in 2002 Bollywood flick, Aap mujhe achche lagne lage. Hritik’s uncle gave his best tunes to make this movie successful too. Yet it was the biggest flop of the year proving that, hit pair many not be hit always.

Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen – It’s said that Farah Khan wrote the script of Mein hoon naa only for casting Sushmita in the lecturer’s role. It was proved right too. Sizzling chemistry of SRK and Sen worked well at box office too. But when Shah Rukh appeared in guest’s role as Sushmita’s Boyfriend in the movie ‘Dulha mil gaya’ to lift the film, it fell down too quickly.

Hritik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor – Both these actors debut Bollywood in the same year, 2000. Many film critics predicted that the era of 2000 exclusively belong to these two talented actors. They worked together for the first time in the multi-star cast - K3G and it was a roaring success at box office too. However their next movies, Mujhse disti karoge and Mein Prem ki diwani hoon failed at box office in successive years. It has been a decade now since these flops have occurred. Despite being successful actors of Bollywood who have been active here for quite a long time, they were never paired again!
