RD - Kishore -The Magic Combination Of Bollywood

Undoubtedly R. D. Burman and Kishore Kumar have always complimented one another. Though Kishore has sung numerous songs of R. D, of which Padosan needs special mention, it was the tsunami or cyclone created in the late 60’s with the songs of Aradhana that redefined the career of both these geniuses. No doubt, Aradhana released in 1969 was a trendsetter of Indian cinema and its music giving new direction to the careers of Burman da, Kishore da and none other than the first super star of Indian cinema – Rajesh Khanna. When songs meant for Rafi were given to Kishore by R.D, not even he might have imagined that songs of Aradhana will suddenly change the flow of direction of Hindi music without any sign of past!

Now let me mention a few more songs of this magic duo which I feel simply the best. Let me begin with Padosan.  Mere samnewali khidki, Chatur naar and Kehna hai – Kishore was both in front of the screen as well as playback singer in the movie. Both clicked too! Second most memorable songs belong to Kati patang. Yeh jo mohabbat hai, Pyar diwana hota hai or Yeh sham mastani – three songs in three different moods; but Kishore has given full life to these songs, pictured on Rajesh Khanna. It’s the case of songs of Amar Prem, Mehbooba, Aap ki kasam, Andaz, Safar, Khudrat and Agar tum na hota where Kishore Kumar became the voice of Rajesh Khanna. It was hard to imagine that time that someone else can sing better for Rajesh Khanna.  Yet I can’t deny the fact that though a few in number, Mukesh-Rajesh Khanna songs are precious gems.

Their combination songs for Amitabh Bachchan were also chartbusters. Zanjeer, Yarana, Satte pe sathe or Faraar, how many songs have we added to our favourite list! Now let me mention a few more films, where R.D – Kishore has worked for other actors. Aanewala pal of Golmaal, Pal pal of Blackmail, Musafir hoon yaaro and Saare se saare of Parichay, Kya yehi pyar hai of Rocky, Sony sony of Yaadom ki baarat, Phoolom ka taaram ko of Hare rama hare Krishna, Thoda hai of khatta meeta, Kitne bhi tu of Sanam teri kasam, Chehra hai and Jaane bhi do naa of Saagar, Yeh wada raha title track, Panna ki tamanna of Heera Panna, Suniye kahiye of Baatom baatom mein, Mera jeevan of Kora kagaz, Tum bin jao of Pyar ka mausam, Bachna e hasseeno of Hum kise se kum nahin, Meri bheegi se of Anamika and Yeh jeevan hai of Piya ka ghar. After Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, third popular actor, I feel it’s Rishi Kapoor.
