Rafi Was The Ghost Voice Of Rajendra Kumar

Rajendra Kumar, the jubilee Kumar of Bollywood is remembered not just for his memorable films, but also for the songs pictured on him. No doubt, his songs are really romantic and sung in a romantic way. So, of course, credits go to none other his ghost singer – Mohd Rafi. After Shammi Kapoor, no doubt, Rafi’s voice was most sought for Jubilee Kumar of Bollywood. It’s hard to imagine Rajendra Kumar singing in Kishore Kumar or Mukesh’s voice though there were a few exceptions.

The first song that comes to my mind will definitely be your choice too, if you are a diehard fan of both the actor and its singer. Yes I am! “Mere mehboob tujhe…meri mohabbat ki kasam” – One of the earliest hits of Rajendra Kumar’s successful career journey starts with Mere Mehmood and its memorable songs. Many songs have come and gone. Still it’s the most popular song of this wonderful combination. E husn zara jag tujhe ishq hua hai – is another number. If I say Mere Mehboob songs permanently associated Rajendra Kumar’s acting with Rafi’s voice, no one will deny it, I firmly believe so. Earlier Mukesh and Mahendra Kapoor sang for majority of his songs. Most of the songs  of this combination were romantic and immensely popular too, played a significant role in making those movies silver jubilee hits too. With the emergence of new sensation – Kishore Kumar in 1970’s, not only Rafi fade away, but his sync-lipped actor – Jubilee Kumar too.

Shankar-Jaikishan duo was behind most of these compositions and can they make a mistake? Never! Many songs are now coming to my mind – music given by SJ. For the movie Sangham, SJ trickily used Mukesh’s voice for Raj Kapoor and Rafi’s voice for Rajendra Kumar. Yeh mera prem part padkar is still remembered as evergreen classic romantic song of Hindi cinema. Same is the case of songs of Suraj too, when he was casted opposite Vaijayanthimala once again. “Baharom phool barsao” is remembered for its lyrics, music and singing. Other songs of SJ include Arzoo, Aayi Milan ki bela, Dil ek mandir, Aap aaye bahar aaye , Dharti and Jhuk Gaya aasman and in all these movies, Rafi’s voice was associated with.

Ajee humse bachkar, Phoolom ki rani, E Nargis e mastana and Jhalke teri aakhom mein of Arzoo, Yaad na jaaye of Dil ek mandir, Kaun hai jo sapnom mein of Jhuk gaya aasman, Aaja tujhko pukare of Geet, Teri pyari pyari surat ko of Sasural, Title track of Aap aaye bahar aaye and Khuda bhi aasma se of Dharti really worth mention.
