Jacques Kallis is one of the best all rounder players South Africa and the cricketing world has seen. It has been a long journey of 18 years since he first represented his country on international scene and now he retires from Test cricket. There has been no looking back ever since. Jacques Kallis, as we all know him, was born Jacques Henry Kallis on 16th October, 1975 in Cape Town. The first time he played a Test match for South Africa was against England at the very same venue where he will be playing his last match – Durban. Incidentally, it was also the month of December then, in 1995.

A month later, in January 1996, Kallis made his ODI (One Day International) debut against England, at his home ground in Cape Town. He made his T20 international debut against New Zealand at Johannesburg, on 21rst October, 2005.

With the help of 17 centuries and 86 half-centuries, Kallis scored 11,574 runs in ODIs. He has been equally effective in Test matches. In the longest version of the game, he has scored 13,174 runs. In this effort, he has 44 centuries to his credit and 58 half-centuries as well.

As a bowler, in ODIs, Kallis has 273 wickets in his name and 292 in Tests. Five wickets for 30 runs has been his best bowling effort in ODIs. In Tests conceding 54 runs, Kallis has grabbed six wickets as is the best bowling figures in an innings. He doesn’t have a 10-wicket haul in either Tests or ODIs.

However, he does have five-wicket haul in both versions. In one day matches, he has taken two five-wicket hauls and in Tests, it has happened five times.

But more than the figures, it is the name that shines and matters. It is the stability that he provided to the South African team that holds more importance. His mere presence in the team bolsters the batting and gives strength to the middle order. And he is also equally handy when it comes to bowling.
