He got introduced to a person Krishanavedavyas while selling news papers. By seeing Shiva's intelligence and interest on studies he encouraged him by helping him to pay all the fees.

When he reached his 10th std paper boy became as a news paper agent. Shiva says 'Mine is a very small agency, my paper office people told me to sell atleast 50 copies a day, I went on cycle to each and every house and requested many families to purchase papers. By this I increased 50 copies to 500 copies. My job is a very tough job. I cannot avoid selling paper for not even a day. So I was a last bench student in my college days, because no one knows when I used to come and go out of the class. Most of my days were without any breakfast'. To gain a seat in IIM was his long lasting aim. He used to study without wasting an hour. And at last he won; he got a seat in IIM.
