Bhagyashree, Kumar Gaurav, Mahima Chaudhary, Anu Aggarwal, Ameesha Patel, Rahul Roy, Vivek Misran, Bhoomika Chawla – Many great stars have made a magical debut to Bollywood with a thumbing success. However they couldn’t sustain their success after their debut movie. Some of them managed to deliver a few hits in their name. Yet they couldn’t replicate the success of their debut movie. What’s the reason behind it? Dimple kapadia took a break from the industry months before the release of her debut movie – Bobby. She didn’t even imagine how the movie is to set fire at box office and she is to become craze among youngsters. She married the biggest superstar of silver screen and returned back after 10 years following her broken marriage. Though she has been the part of many successful and critically acclaimed movies like Saagar, Dil chahta hai, Ram Lakhan and Rudali, audience till loves to call her as ‘Bobby’. Amrita Singh too, though has several hit movies in her credit she is still remembered for her debut movie – Betaab.

Among the one-hit wonder male stars, the leading star is of course Kumar Gaurav, the son of Jubilee Kumar. When the movie Love story was released in 1982, this chocolate hero had a good fan crowd and people loved to imitate his looks, hair style, mannerisms and everything. Naam was his only hit after that and in 2002 he appeared in Kaante, playing supporting role. Aashique star – Rahul Roy is also similar to Kumar Gaurav. Though the movie is regarded as a trendsetter to melodious musical hits of Bollywood 1990s, both its leading actors Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal remain one hit wonders. Rahul achieved success through a few movies like Sapne sajan ke. Vivek Misran of saudagar fame is another example.

Bhagyashree made a magical entry to Bollywood opposite Salman Khan in Meine pyar kiya. After a series of flops she got married and settled with family life. However she played supporting roles in a few movies in 2000s and played lead role in Jai Santoshi ma in 2006, which was a box office hit. Mahima Chaudhary of Pardes and Ameesha Patel of Kaho na pyar hai are the names added in the recent times. Hamraaz and Gaddar are the only major solo hits of Ameesha post the magical movie – Kaho na pyar hai. Similar to Bhagyashree, Bhoomika Chawla too is one of the leading ladies of Salman’s career who gave new life to his struggling career. But she too faded from screen very soon.

Jiya Khan of Gajani fame, Giselle Monteiro, Love Aaj Kal, Mandakini of Ram teri ganga maili and Gracy Singh of Lagan and Munnabhai MBBS – names are many. Among actresses of yesterdays, Rehana Sultan of Chetana fame and Zaheeda of Gambler fame also needs special mention.
