The fortnight known as Pitra Paksha

Globalization and development have helped people getting rid of myths in general and the most recent example is the way people are no more giving much importance to old traditions of looking at things with the view of astrologers. According to astrologers, we have two occasions in a year when the meaning of life is entirely changed for us. We avoid beginning a new work, do not purchase property during the inauspicious days no vehicles no marriages no new construction or whatever considered related with the welfare of our family is out of routine until the new festive season begins.

As per the set norms of the society, we are not supposed to buy any thing new apart from the commodities for daily use however the traditions going on for ages without having a proper reason for the same are part of the people. There are two reasons for people following that hearsay

One- they have to go according to society as going against it may harm them socially. 

Two- they have a fear psychosis working inside them and are afraid about the welfare of their family although they want to get out of it.

The main reason for following these traditions is simple as we the Hindus are known to be religious people with fear of god and some thing unknown happening bad with us in case we went against the set traditions in our life for thousands of years. We want to stay that way even if some of us do not have full trust in such baseless traditions and wish to get rid of these traditions which otherwise have no meanings.

Changing trends- However, as the society looks down at people who go against the age old set traditions, most of the people have no choice but to follow such traditions despite no faith in such traditions whatsoever. On the contrary, some people are willing to their sopping in these fortnights as the rates go down considerably and even special prices offered beside the advantage of no crowded market places. People have even started booking flats and other costly items like cars etc during this period and renovation done during this period.
